Increases in wholesale power costs and inflation driven expense increases for Cherry-Todd required the Board of Directors to increase the rates at the December 23, 2025 board meeting. The rate increase is effective with the January 2026 consumption and the February 2025 billing will be the first statement at the new rate. The new rate sheet for residential accounts, Schedule “A”, will be available on our website,www.cherry-todd.com, as soon as we receive the updates from our rate consultant, Power Systems Engineering.
The overall increase of the combined rate classes is 8%. The average increase for residential is 8.8%, three-phase large commercial is 10.1% and stock water wells were increased by 8.9% on the average. The remaining rate classes were similarly adjusted. Large commercial will see a 9.5% increase, electric heat will increase by 6.3%, and irrigation will see a 6.3% increase. The power costs and expenses in each rate class were analyzed for the rate study and adjusted for the final rate design.
The main driver in our rate adjustment is the increase in our wholesale power cost from Rushmore Electric. Rushmore receives power supply from Basin Electric and WAPA, otherwise known as the Western Area Power Administration. Cherry Todd has been able to minimize the increase as much as possible by our continued focus on efficiency and the expansion of our load management program and the resulting power cost savings. We will continue these efforts to minimize any future increases coming down from our Generation and Transmission entities supplying the wholesale power to Cherry Todd Electric.
